Grade 7 – Amateur Adult Referee

The purpose of the Grade 7 Referee Course is to prepare officials for the amateur adult game. Based on the level of training provided, U.S. Soccer recommends that these officials be assigned accordingly to best service the game.

 

Certification Requirements

Age  Recommended Minimum 18 Years of Age
Previous Grade Experience Determined by the State Referee Association 100 games, 50 as a referee, 50 as Assistant Referee . 80 of the 100 may be younger games.
Previous Grade Experience Determined by the State Referee Association Referee Grade 8 - 1 year minimum
Training Pass the Grade 7 Referee Course
Laws of the Game Test Pass the Grade 7 Referee Test
Fitness Test Not Applicable *
Practical Evaluation Not Applicable

Annual Recertification

Training Determined by the State Referee Association Attendance at a recertification clinic
Laws of the Game Test Pass the Grade 7 Referee Test 
Fitness Test Not Applicable *

Notes:

  • State Referee Association requirements must be made public.
  • All training requirements can be completed online and/or in the classroom setting as determined by the State Referee Association and there are no minimum number of hours associated with either requirement.
  • At a minimum, U.S. Soccer recommends that training includes the completion of all online training materials for the Grade 7 Referee Course.

* To be eligible for assignments in the Dev. Academy League or USSF Div 3 games, one must pass the Grade 6 fitness test and pass an assessment as referee on one game annually for reregistration. Game must be 80 minutes, DSC, 11 vs 11, by Grade 7 or higher approved assessor.
